The Background:
In 2013 MRMU bought a 2.65 acre brown-field, edge of town site in Trowbridge. The former Peter Black toiletries factory is located next to St Stephens Place Leisure Park, which offers leisure activities, dining and entertainment, including a seven-screen ODEON multiplex cinema and an 80 bed Premier Inn hotel.
The Development:
The plan was to turn the site, which has been vacant for many years, into a thriving hub, anchored by a large, attractively designed Marks & Spencer Simply Food store (11,000ft² ground floor and 5,000ft² mezzanine). Plans included a 6,500ft² pub/restaurant and an additional two retail units of 3,000ft² and 2,000 ft². It was to complement the recent regeneration of the St Stephens Place Leisure Park, which is intended to link to via a new footbridge across the River Biss. The £10M scheme achieved a high BREEAM rating for sustainable design and construction.
The Result:
Planning approval was obtained and construction took place in 2016/2017 with the site completed and opened in July 2017.
Tenants include Dominos, Greggs, Pizza Express Delivery, Subway, M&S food court and Mitchells & Butler Toby Carvery.
